NEW DELHI: Expressing support for the Joint Parliamentary Committee’s(JPC) decision to allow all stakeholders to present their views on the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has requested that the JPC solicit opinions and advice solely from Muslims, as the issue is of particular relevance to them only.

This decision was reached during an urgent online meeting led by board president Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani and board secretary general Maulana Muhammad Fazl-ur-Rahim Mujaddidi.

In a significant move, the AIMPLB has committed to mobilizing as many Muslims as possible to submit their responses to the JPC via email or postal mail. The board argues that the proposed amendments to the Waqf Act 1995, outlined in the Waqf Amendment Bill, would undermine the Act and facilitate the encroachment and occupation of Waqf properties. Consequently, the AIMPLB rejects the bill in its entirety and calls for its immediate withdrawal.

The board has requested that written memorandums or advice be sent in English or Hindi, with two copies addressed to the Joint Secretary (JM), Lok Sabha Secretariat, Room Number 440, Sansad Bhawan, New Delhi-110001. Submissions can also be faxed to 011-23017709 or emailed by September 12, 2024, to [email protected].

Additionally, the AIMPLB plans to organize conferences and protest meetings in major cities across the country. These gatherings will focus on the Shari’ah status, importance, and necessity of Waqf, as well as discussing the potential threats and protective measures.

A delegation from the AIMPLB will meet with the chairman and members of the JPC to present their position both in writing and verbally. The delegation will also engage with leaders of NDA parties, including Chandrababu Naidu, Nitish Kumar, Chirag Paswan, and Jayant Chaudhary, as well as opposition party leaders. They also plan to secure appointments with the Prime Minister and the Home Minister to convey their response to the amendment Bill.
