NEW DELHI: The All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (Regd) has further strengthened its organizational framework by establishing a Delhi state unit. The inaugural meeting was held on 31st August at Milli Model School, located in the Abul Fazal Enclave of Jamia Nagar.

This significant event, attended by community leaders, scholars, and activists, marks a pivotal step in bolstering the presence and influence of AIMMM (Regd) in India’s capital.

Prominent members of the newly formed Delhi unit addressed the gathering, emphasizing the crucial role AIMMM plays in advocating for the rights and interests of Muslims in India, particularly in these challenging times.

Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan, the keynote speaker, former chairman of the Delhi Minorities Commission, and current national president of AIMMM, expressed his confidence in the Delhi unit’s potential to mobilize support and work effectively towards uplifting the community. He stressed the importance of collaborative efforts with other community organizations to achieve shared goals, emphasizing that AIMMM is inclusive, with no discrimination based on gender, caste, class, or sect. Dr. Khan highlighted that AIMMM functions as a cohesive whole, representing the diverse Muslim community.

Dr. Khan remarked, “With a population of two hundred million, Muslims are the second-largest community in the country. Sociologically speaking, just two percent of the population can change the destiny of any nation. Only four lakh determined individuals can shape their future, not four million.”

He addressed the myriad challenges facing the Muslim community today, including “bulldozer injustice,” mob lynching, discrimination, and the targeting of Waqf properties. He also criticized the recent Waqf Amendment Bill, stating that by empowering district collectors with full authority over Waqf properties, the government has facilitated increased interference by officials, who are unlikely to act against governmental directives. “They will not do justice to these Waqf properties,” Dr. Khan warned.

Dr. Noorullah, the newly appointed convener of the Delhi state unit, stressed the need for unity among Muslims in Delhi. He underscored the importance of increasing representation in AIMMM, given the large Muslim population in the city, and expressed a commitment to recruiting hundreds of influential members from various organizations.

Maulana Abrar Ahmad Makki also spoke, outlining the unit’s objectives, which include addressing socio-economic challenges, promoting education, and ensuring that the community’s voice is heard in policy-making.

The program concluded with a call for greater participation from the community. The establishment of the Delhi state unit is seen as a critical step in ensuring that the concerns of Muslims in Delhi are addressed at both the state and national levels.

The event at Milli Model School was attended by Waqar-ul-Haq, Mohd Tayyeb, Zahid Ahmad, Ahmad Qidwai, Md Asim Zafar, Dr. M. A. Johar, Dr. Abdul Qadir Khan, Dr. Badrul Islam Kairanvi, Sardar Ahmed Gilani, Mr. S. Zoha, Md Islam, Zafar Ahmad Momin, Rahat Ali, D. A. Malik Mohammad, and Adv. Atiqur Rahman Siddiqi. All attendees expressed strong support for AIMMM’s initiatives.

The newly formed Delhi state unit is expected to play a vital role in advancing the objectives of AIMMM and advocating for the rights and welfare of Muslims in Delhi.
