NEW DELHI: Even as the controversial fanatical Hindu priest Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati has been detained by police in Uttar Pradesh for making blasphemous remarks against Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), various Muslim religious organizations condemned his vile remarks against the Prophet and appealed to the Muslim masses to remain calm and not to take law in their own hands despite grave provocations.

Condemning his comments, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) and Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind (JUH) demand stringent action against the controversial seer while appealing to Muslim masses to keep calm and maintain law and order.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) vice-president Malik Motasim Khan, condemned the blasphemous remarks by Swami Yati Narsingh Anand against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

He said the blasphemous statements of the controversial Hindu religious leader “are not only deeply hurtful to millions of Muslims but are a deliberate act of provocation aimed at inciting communal tensions.”

“Narsinghanand’s repeated derogatory remarks are absolutely intolerable,” Mr Khan pointed.

“Such wicked people pose a serious threat to peace, and law and order in the country. It is the duty of the government and judiciary to act decisively and prevent such individuals from disrupting communal harmony.”

Mr. Khan further stated, “Narsinghanand’s comments reflect a deep moral and spiritual crisis. It exposes an irrational obsession with attacking Islam and its revered figures. This is not only an issue for Muslims but also a degradation of the moral and spiritual values of the broader society. We sincerely believe that such remarks are not only against the law but are also against the religious values and teachings of Hinduism. Hence leaders, intellectuals, and religious figures must rise against such vile remarks and defend the cultural and religious traditions, which are being tarnished by individuals who misuse religious platforms to spread hatred. This is not merely an issue of hurting Muslim sentiments; it is a collective challenge against the rise of religious radicalism that endangers societal peace and spiritual integrity.”

However, Mr Khan said that the stature and dignity of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) cannot be diminished by the vile words of a few ignorant and despicable individuals.

“We should remain calm in the face of such provocation and should counter these provocations with wisdom, patience, and dignity. We urge the community to take meaningful steps to promote the teachings, ethics, and noble qualities of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in multiple languages so that the true message of peace and compassion reaches every corner of the country. Only through such efforts can we hope to build a society rooted in mutual respect and harmony,” the JIH leader said.

Reacting to Narsinghanand’s dirty remarks against Prophet Muhammed, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind (JUH) president Maulana Arshad Madani said that Narsinghanand is a threat to the peace and national integrity of the nation. He said that the silence of various influential figures in the country and the lack of arrests of blasphemers are reasons that have tarnished the country’s image worldwide.

“The government and agencies’ silence indicates that extremist individuals are receiving political support, and the absence of action has led mischievous elements to believe that the law will not reach them because their protectors are in power,” Maulana Madani said.

The Uttarakhand unit of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has demanded stringent action against the fanatical priest. Nayyer Kazmi, AIMIM’s Uttarakhand president, criticized the governmental leniency and police favouritism, asserting that Narsinghanand has repeatedly insulted the Prophet and has evaded accountability despite multiple complaints.

The controversial was taken into custody at the Ghaziabad Police Lines following the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) due to his inflammatory speech, which offended the sentiments of the Muslim community.

The FIR was registered on October 4, accusing Narsinghanand of delivering hate speech during an event on September 29 at Hindi Bhavan in Lohia Nagar, Ghaziabad. Protests erupted across Ghaziabad and other parts of Western Uttar Pradesh following these comments, with members of the Muslim community expressing their outrage.

The complaint was lodged by Trivendra Singh, a police officer at the Sihani Gate police station, and it cites Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to offenses against religious sentiments. Sachin Kumar, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sihani Gate, stated, “An FIR has been registered based on a viral video… Action will be taken only after a thorough examination of the video.”

The video in question, which has gained significant traction on social media, allegedly captures Narsinghanand making derogatory statements about Prophet Muhammad.

This is not Narsinghanand’s first brush with controversy; he was previously arrested in 2022 for hate speech and has a history of making provocative statements. In December 2021, he infamously called on Hindus to arm themselves in response to perceived threats from the Muslim community during a gathering at the ‘Dharm Sansad’ in Haridwar.
