RANCHI: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has said he will never support the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024.
He gave this assurance to a delegation of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) led by its president Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani who called Soren last week.
“We will never support the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024,” he promised to the board delegation.
The AIMPLB delegation explained to the Jharkhand CM the reasons for opposing the proposed Bill that weakens and dilutesg the Waqf Act 1995 and paves the way for usurpation of waqf properties.
They also apprised him that the provisions contained in the proposed Bill were against the Constititution, democratic values, federalism and against the plural structure of the country.
Board general secretary Moulana Mohammed Fazlur Raheem Mujaddidi, introduced the board to the chief minister and acquainted him with the various provisions of the bill.
Dr. S. Q. R. Ilyas the executive member of the board reiterated the stand and beseeched the CM and said “As a voice of the tribals and marginalized sections, we expect from you that you will come forward and support us in our fight against the suppressions of the minorities”.
After hearing patiently, the Chief Minister assured the delegation and said “I have always stood by the just issues of the Muslims and will continue to do so. I will take all necessary efforts to see that this malicious bill doesn’t get passed by the Parliament. We will pass a resolution in our cabinet against the bill.”
The delegation finally submitted a brief note on the critical study of the bill’s various provisions to him and thanked him for his patience listening.
Mr Hafizul Hasan Ansari, minister of Minority Affairs accompanied the Chief Minister during the discussion. The board delegation comprised board general secretary Maulana Mohammed Fazlur Rahim Mujaddidi, board’s spokesperson Dr. S. Q. R. Ilyas, and board members from Jharkhand : Maulana Mohd Yaseen Qasmi, Maulana Mufti Nazar Tauheed and renowned surgeon Dr. Majid Alam.
