New Delhi, 15 March 2015: Eminent human rights activists of Delhi have demanded the Nagaland governor to order a judicial enquiry into the Dimapur lynching of an imprisoned rape accused. They held a protest demonstration outside the Nagaland House here on Saturday and submitted a memorandum to the Resident Commissioner of Nagaland.

“We the undersigned are extremely concerned about the recent incident of lynching of a man accused of rape by a large mob in Dimapur. It is a matter of grave concern that the slain man was in judicial custody when he was attacked and killed,” said the rights activists in the memorandum to Nagaland Governor Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya.

Syed Farid Khan, a rape accused lodged in the Dimapur Central Jail, was taken out by a mob of over 2000 people on 5th March, paraded naked through the city and lynched by the mob.

The Delhi civil society has demanded a judicial probe into the incident.
