New Delhi, 11 Oct 2015: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has made public an 18th Sep letter of the central government to counter Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 2nd Oct remarks over the mega Bihar package. While disclosing a portion of the letter on his twitter handle, Nitish said he was “sharing again the farce of Modiji.”

At an election rally in Banka in Bihar on 2nd Oct, PM Modi said: “Should a single rupee be given to the present government (of Bihar)? If I give, will it reach you? And they are so arrogant that even if I send they may perhaps return it,” Nitish quoted Modi on Twitter and shared youtube link of PM’s speech.

To counter this point, Nitish shared also a portion of the 18th Sep letter that he got from Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely. The letter clearly says that most of the projects mentioned in the mega Bihar project (that PM Modi had announced in mid-August this year) are central sector projects and would be implemented by the central ministries themselves. It means that the amount of Rs 1.25 lakh crore would not be given to the state government.

“It may be worthwhile to mention that the projects in the package are mostly central sector projects; therefore, would be implemented directly by the concerned central ministries. In some of the projects included under digital Bihar, Tourism, central aviation and Petroleum and Natural Gases etc. the work would be undertaken by central agencies including public sector undertakings…,” the letter reads.

Commenting on this, Nitish said he was “Amazed at the brazenness with which Modiji continues to distort facts.”

PM Modi, while addressing a rally at the Ramna ground in Arrah district of Bihar on 18 August, had announced a package of Rs. 1.25 lakh crore for an “ailing” Bihar in a very dramatic tone. He asked the audience how much they wanted and he himself continued raising the figure and said the centre would give Rs 1.25 lakh crore to Bihar.

In a separate tweet, Nitish attacked PM Modi for his ‘double speak’ over beef issue.

“Modiji’s double speak at its best – beef exports went up by 15.4% in his 1st year as PM, yet he tries to make beef an issue in Bihar elections,” tweeted Nitish.
