New Delhi, 21 Nov 2015: Member of Delhi Legislative Assembly Amanatullah Khan was attacked by two unknown persons Thursday evening – a day after he opposed the demand of BJP MLAs for condolence by the House on the demise of Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Ashok Singhal and called him ‘killer’ and Nathuram Godse terrorist. Khan says he was attacked for his remarks against Singhal and Godse.

“I have filed an FIR in the Jamia Nagar Police Station and police have assured me they would nab the culprits. A few hours after the attack, I got a call around 10:30 pm from Jaipur in Rajasthan. He told me that I called ‘Godseji’ terrorist and ‘Ashok Singhalji’ killer. He threatened me and said consequences of what I am doing would be bad. First I took his call lightly but then I felt he was someone from RSS, BJP or VHP and they don’t want us to fight against injustice,” said Khan, legislator of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party.

Khan has also written a letter to Speaker of Assembly Ram Nivas Goyal seeking probe into the attack in which his right leg was fractured.

In the letter, he gave details about the incident.

“I was returning to my home when around 7 pm near Holi Family Hospital an unknown person said Salaam to me and requested me to meet him. I came out of my car and when I was shaking hands with him someone from behind attacked me with a club and after hitting at my right leg he started fleeing. When I tried to stop him both persons abused me and fled,” Khan wrote in the letter.

The Delhi Assembly Speaker has forwarded the letter to the Delhi Police Commissioner.

Khan says the attack will not frighten him.

“The attack was a clear attempt to threaten me. I believe that death will come on a fixed time. I fear none other than Allah. Such attacks will only embolden me to continue raise my voice against injustice. I will not back down,” he said.

On Friday, several members of Delhi Assembly raised the issue in the House and condemned the incident.
