New Delhi, March 08: An eminent Muslim religious organization has pledged to take on all threats to peace and communal harmony in the country and to root out all terror organisations including ISIS which are destroying society and global peace.

“There have always been things to create hatred among communities, now has come terrorism for the same purpose. Imams, clerics and religious persons of other religions have always been working for peace in the society but their responsibility has become far more important today,” said Maulana Asghar Ali Imam Mehdi Salafi, General Secretary, Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadeeth. He was addressing a press conference at the Constitution Club here on Tuesday.

“Daish (ISIS) is the biggest threat to humanity and peace today. We have issued fatwa (edicts) against terrorism and terror groups in the past,” said Maulana Mehdi and highlighted that “Imams’ role in establishing peace and communal harmony is great.”

Besides terror groups, he said, some others are also threatening peace in the country.

“Those who claim authority on patriotism, issue statements on it and create hatred among communities are also threat to peace and communal harmony. We have named Daish especially because it has done huge damage to society and humanity,” said Maulana Mehdi and briefed the press about the upcoming national conference of his organisation on the related issue.

The two-day 33rd all-India conference of Jamiat Ahle Hadeeth will be held on the topic of “The Role and Privileges of Imams and Preachers in Development of Humanity and Formation of a Peaceful Society.” The event will be held on 12-13 March at Ramlila Ground in the National Capital.

“We have invited spiritual leaders of all religions besides some politicians in the conference. Religious leaders can change heart of people and restore peace in the society,” said Maulana Mehdi and informed that his book on the menace of terrorism will be released at the conference.

“During the past Ramadan, I was writing a book on the menace of terrorism. The book will be released at the convention. There is a need to root out all terror groups from the earth,” he said.

On joint campaign of heads of all religions for peace and communal harmony in the country, Maulana Mehdi, who was accompanied with half a dozen clerics and office bearers of his organisation, said: “We have already been campaigning for peace in villages and towns along with other people of other religions. We have done it in Haryana and some other states. We will intensify the campaign after the convention.”
