IndiaTomorrow.net,New Delhi, April 13: “To celebrate Ambedkar’s Jayanti should be a sin for both central and state governments because they have violated every principle and rule of Ambedkar. Then what right do they have to celebrate Ambedkar’s Jayanti,” asked eminent social activist Aruna Roy while talking to IndiaTomorrow.net on the sidelines of an event organized here on the eve of 125th birth anniversary of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar on Wednesday.

“We have pushed cleaning workers to the bottom of the society – they are dying in gutters. They make long talks about India and its progress. As long as these people are in this status, India will not be a developing country nor will we have any right to celebrate his birthday,” said Roy. She also addressed the people who had gathered from across the country after participating in 125-day Bhim Yatra.

“Discrimination against Dalits has been in our system, society and caste system. But when the government promotes brahminism and manuvad, it sends a signal. These people were not in good condition earlier but there was a hope,” she said.

CPI leader and Member of Parliament D Raja also addressed the event.

While talking to IndiaTomorrow.net, he said: “I came here to express my support and solidarity with the cleaning workers. These people have been fighting for eradication of manual scavenging and it is a genuine demand. Prime Minister Narendra Modi while talking about Swachh Bharat should really agree to end this inhuman practice.”
