Durga Puja, Muharram passed off peaceful, do not pay heed to rumours: Bengal Police

Kolkata, Oct 16: The West Bengal and Kolkata Police on Saturday requested people to not pay heed to rumours, asserting the Durga Puja and Muharram passed off peacefully, mirroring the “exemplary” communal harmony in the state.

“Puja&Muharram passed off peacefully with active participation of all the people maintaining Communal Harmony. We express deep gratitude to all.

“The largest festival of Bengal attracting millions of people was a grand reflection of exemplary communal harmony by the people of Bengal. Please do not pay any heed to rumor mongering by mischievous elements,” the Kolkata Police said in a series of tweets.

Reiterating the same, the Bengal Police asked people to be cautious against rumours doing the rounds on social networking sites.

“Some elements wid ill Motive trying to do rumor mongering thru diff means including social ntwrkng Sites. Request to be cautious against them,” the state police tweeted.

The advice from the police comes in the wake of recent reports of alleged clashes between two communities in certain areas in the state, including Hooghly and North 24 Parganas districts.
