IMPHAL, APRIL 11— The North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) has appealed to the Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh to resolve the problems the stranded workers of the state are facing in applying online to get the financial support announced by the state government last week.

One of the proofs sought from applicant is his/her travel detail. NEFIS said it is difficult for those who are staying outside for months and years to provide such travel detail.

“Workers have to fill a form in a website made for the purpose. Many people are facing problems while submitting the form through the said website for registration to get benefit. People are asked to show their travelling details but many working people who are staying in various cities for several months don’t have such a proof to show,” said Thokchom Yaiphalembi Chanu, Member of NEFIS in a media statement on Friday.

The civil group has requested the state government “to resolve the issues immediately so that the people can get benefit at the earliest during these hard times.”

Last week (April 7), the state the Manipur CM had announced to give financial help of Rs. 2,000 each to the Manipuri workers stranded in different cities of the country.

NEFIS has also demanded the CM to raise the support amount given the difficulties of the stranded workers.

After the nationwide lockdown was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 24, lakhs of migrant workers from states are stranded in various parts of the country. Besides their own state governments, the authorities in the areas of residence of migrant workers have also made arrangement for stay and food for them.
