CHENNAI/AHMEDABAD—VN Balakrishna, a respected journalist with a career spanning more than 30 years in Gujarat, is now facing a tough situation and needs our collective empathy and support.

His impressive journey, dedicated to journalism and helping others, has hit a roadblock as he deals with his sister’s serious health issues. He’s known for being a caring person, always ready to lend a hand to friends and those in need.

Balakrishna worked for major English media houses in Ahmedabad and later launched a magazine called “The Gujarat” under the guidance of then Chief Minister Narendra Modiji. Modiji knew him personally as Balakrishna was the Managing Editor for the magazine. Balakrishna wrote a book on agricultural growth in Gujarat and during 2009-10, he also wrote a booklet “The Seeds of Development”.

He had also the opportunity to write the Golden Jubilee speech for then Gujarat Governor Kamlaben when the state celebrated its 50 years in 2010.

His life took a difficult turn in 2018 when he lost his only son to brain cancer. The emotional and financial toll of his young son’s death, coupled with his sister’s recent stroke and diagnosis of a brain tumour, has left Balakrishnan facing huge challenges. His sister, aged 61, is now paralyzed and needs extensive care.

Despite his own difficulties, Balakrishna, who now lives in Hyderabad in Telangana, is also taking care of his 101-year-old mother, who depends on him. With limited finances, he’s struggling to manage everything, relying on freelancing as his main source of income.

He had admitted his sister to LK Hospital, Malkajgiri, near Hyderabad, on August 1, and as the costs mounted, he had to bring her home within a few hours. But thanks to the support of a few kind-hearted friends, Balakrishnan was able to get treatment for his sister from Dr. Venkat Reddy, a well-known neuro physician at Lucid Diagnostics. Thankfully, her condition has started improving from a critical state but she needs continued treatment for a long time.

In this tough time, Balakrishna is reaching out to all of us for help and support. He has dedicated his life to journalism and helping others, and now he needs our help in return.
