BENGALURU: In a tragic incident, an under-construction building collapsed in the Hennur area of Bengaluru, claiming the lives of at least three workers. The rescue operation, which concluded successfully, accounted for all victims. Volunteers from Humanitarian Relief Services (HRS), part of the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) Karnataka’s Rescue and Rehabilitation wing, played a pivotal role in these efforts.

As heavy rains lashed the city, initial reports indicated that structural weaknesses, particularly in the basement, may have contributed to the collapse. Emergency responders—including police, firefighters, and personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF)—worked diligently to recover those trapped. HRS volunteers, easily recognizable in their bright yellow t-shirts, collaborated closely with government agencies, helping to clear debris and providing first aid to those in need.

Once the bodies of the deceased workers were recovered, HRS volunteers shifted their focus to supporting the affected families. They offered counseling services to help them cope with the trauma of their loss, demonstrating profound compassion and dedication during this harrowing time.

Dr. Mohammed Saad Belgami, President of JIH Karnataka, expressed deep gratitude for the volunteers’ efforts. In a message on social media platform X, he stated, “I am grateful to our HRS volunteers for their tireless efforts during the Bengaluru building collapse rescue operation. Working late into the night, they not only assisted in recovery but also provided vital counseling to the brave families affected. Their commitment to humanitarian service truly exemplifies compassion in action.”
