NEW DELHI: The Ghaziabad police arrested a 36-year-old man on Wednesday for allegedly harassing an Urdu teacher, forcing him to chant “Jai Shri Ram,” and ultimately pushing him out of an elevator in a residential society. The incident occurred on Tuesday at Panchsheel Wellington, where the teacher was present for private tuition.

The accused, identified as Manoj Kumar, is a resident of the society. Assistant Commissioner of Police Lipi Nagaich confirmed the arrest, stating, “We have taken action based on the complaint lodged by the Urdu teacher, Mohammad Alamgir.”

According to Alamgir, when he attempted to remain silent and avoid confrontation, Kumar’s aggression escalated. “He forced me out when the elevator stopped on the first floor. He even called another resident, questioning when Muslims were allowed in the society, which led to further hostility. They blocked my access to the 16th floor and eventually compelled me to leave,” Alamgir recounted.

Nagaich indicated that Kumar has been charged under multiple sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections for wrongful restraint, intentional insult, and criminal intimidation.

The police are currently investigating the incident and exploring all possible angles to identify any additional individuals involved. During interrogation, Kumar expressed doubts about Alamgir and claimed that an inappropriate response from the teacher provoked his aggressive behavior. The investigation continues as authorities seek to address the underlying issues surrounding this incident.
