Communal clashes erupt in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, 26 May 2014: Communal clashes reportedly erupted in Gomtipur area of Ahmedabad Sunday night following a car crash during a marriage procession. According to AFP news agency, four people were injured in the violence while several shops and vehicles were set afire.

The news agency quoted Ahmedabad joint police commissioner Manoj Shashidhar saying that clashes appeared to have started when two cars from the different communities crashed in an accident during a marriage procession.

Angry crowds set fire to several shops and vehicles and pelted stones at each other during the clashes in Ahmedabad on Sunday night, police and fire officials told AFP.

Former Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi who ruled the state for 13 years is taking oath of Prime Minister of India this evening (Monday).
