Saharanpur, 23 Nov 2015: In what may be termed as its symbolic move for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the Congress party on Monday began foot march from Saharanpur to raise the issues of farmers of the state.

The campaign named as Kisan Padyatra began this morning under the leadership of party vice president Rahul Gandhi. The Padyatra started from Pilakhni village – enroute to Harda Khedi village.

More interesting is the hashtag created by the official twitter handle of the party and it denotes the plan and intention of the party.

“Rahul Gandhi’s Kisan Padyatra from Saharanpur #UPwalksWithINC,” tweeted the party handle ‏@INCIndia and shared photos of Rahul walking along with farmers.

Amidst murmurs about a Bihar-type grand alliance to take on BJP in the 2017 Assembly polls in the country’s largest state, some state party leaders were quoted in media saying the party will fight the polls alone.

The guessgame about the alliance, however, is still one with some suggesting an alliance comprising BSP of Mayawati, Congress and some smaller parties like RLD and Peace Party.

Addressing farmers at the Chaupal in HardaKhedi village, Rahul said: “Congress Party will stand with the poor, the mazdoor & the farmers of this country and of UP.”

“That is why while the PM only travels abroad I am here standing with you in your fields,” said Rahul commenting on the foreign trip of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Rahul targeted UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav also. “Akhileshji had promised to change UP. You have one and half years now. Give jobs to youths, compensation for sugarcane to farmers and change UP”.
