Government creates exclusive forum for development of North East

New Delhi, Feb 11: For a speedy development of north east, central government has set up an exclusive forum at the NITI Aug. This forum will look various proposals from central and state governments and prepare plans for the region. The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Dr Jitendra Singh on Saturday said that the Modi government has given enough attention to the northeast region.

“Over the last four years, the Northeast region has been given the utmost attention which it deserved and was showed not only physical but also psychological outreach by the central government to the people of the region,” a press release quoted Singh. He also claimed that the Act East policy has enhanced the importance of the region.

“The central government has taken major initiatives for development of NE region over the last four years. Under Bharatmala Pariyojna, 5301 kilometres in NER have been approved for improvement. Out of this, 3246 kilometre road marked for development of Economic Corridor in North East. Also, bidding process for the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway has begun,” he added.

DoNER was created in 2001 by the then NDA government and eight states Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim are called northeastern states.
