PATNA—The Congress that was given 70 seats as part of electoral alliance in the Mahagathbandhan led by RJD leader Tejashwai Yadav, was leading on merely 18 seats. Meanwhile, out of results declared so far, two seats each went to BJP, Janata Dal (United) and RJD.

While RJD contested on 144 seats, the left parties contested on 19 seats.

Political analysts say that had the RJD fielded more candidates, the performance of the Mahagathbandhan would have been better. Bout sources said that RJD had to give in to the Congress and allot 70 seats to it due to political compulsion. Sources said that

All the parties, which are part of the Mahagathbandhan performed better than the Congress. Analysts say that the Congress has become a liability for its regional allies, particularly in Bihar, as it failed to mobilise voters in its favour despite the party having been given a big chunk of the seats. Even the left parties with not much base in the state have performed better than the Congress.
