New Delhi, 21 July 2015: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, Andhra Pradesh on the basis of media reports that a woman Tehsildar, Musunuru in Krishna district was beaten by an MLA of Telugu Desam Party and an alleged sand mafia in the presence of policemen on the 9th July, 2015.

“The Commission has observed that the contents of the media report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim. It has given two weeks’ time to the officers of the State Government to submit a factual report,” said NHRC in its notice.

According to media reports, the Tehsildar had gone to the site of sand mining in the district and asked to stop the commercial sand mining. The MLA reached the spot and objected to her action and assaulted the woman officer. The policemen present there did not take any step to protect the victim. A picture showing the officer being assaulted was also carried.
