New Delhi, 10 Dec 2013: On International Human Rights Day on 10 Dec, Campus Front of India conducted a signature and postcard campaign on atrocities against women in more than 10 states of India, and at more than 100 universities of the country. A banner with a Postcard design was used to create awareness about Women’s atrocities. It will be sent to President Pranab Mukherjee.

Atiya Firdous, National Vice President Campus Front India remarked: “These signatures highlighting the plight of women will be sent to His Excellency The President of India. Women play a vital role in building the family and the society. It is so unfortunate that half of humankind is deprived of their rights, marginalized and kept away from all spheres of decision making. And yet we speak of Human Rights.”

She further said: “The talks and hue and cry over the Women issues is mere a lip service till date. We will work hard to bring awareness in society. Because when we speak of Freedom and Security of Women, it is for the society to give Freedom, security can be by governments. By this campaign we want atrocities on women to become a priority. Women want Equality, Not Privileges. Men and women are Equal, not Similar.”

“This deep rooted malaise of inequality needs revolutionary measures. Our struggle shall go until our country ensures security and freedom for women to educate, work and travel without fear. Then only our great nation can prosper,” she said.

Some important universities where the signature campaigns were held included Kerala university, Calicut university, Mysore university, Madras University, Luknow university, AMU, Patna university, Jaipur university, Delhi University and Jamia Millia Islamia.
