Mumbai, 29 Dec 2013: Mumbai police have registered an FIR against a TV show contestant Ajaz Khan for calling Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi ‘chor’. The police have acted within hours of the video clip of popular Big Boss TV show went viral on social networking sites leading workers of Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party to protest.

According to media reports, as soon as the video clip showing Khan describing Modi as ‘chor’ uploaded on youtube and circulated on social networking sites, BJP cadres from Lonavla on Thursday night tried to barge into the Lonavla bungalow where the contestants of Big Boss are housed. Police personnel, however, prevented them from doing so.

Angry cadres of Mumbai’s BJP youth wing then approached the Samata Nagar police in Kandivli and lodged a police complaint against Colors channel which is broadcasting the TV show and Ajaz Khan, says a news report in India Today. Samata Nagar police have reportedly transferred the complaint to Lonavla police station.

Some points out this case as another evidence of how the system of the country acts fast against weaker sections and minorities. It is the same Modi against whom many victims of Gujarat riot 2002 are striving for last eight years to lodge an FIR for his alleged involvement in the riots, but they have not yet got success.

“…how easily an FIR (police complaint) has been registered against the contestant of Indian TV show, Ajaz Khan for having called Modi a ‘chor’ (thief) and compare it with nearly 8 years of legal struggle just to get an FIR registered against Modi, the CM who presided over the massacre of 2,000 Indian citizens he had sworn to protect! During the course of these 8 years, numerous whistle-blower cops have come out and testified on how they have personally heard Modi instructing them to “allow Hindus to vent their anger”, victims have come out and testified how distress calls to his office from ex-Member of Parliament had been ignored, unprecedented evidence has been given on how Modi promoted officials who facilitated the massacre of minorities and punished those who protected the vulnerable and video confessions were captured and broadcast on live television by perpetrators of violence on how Modi had protected them……and yet, after 8 years of judicial struggle, a simple FIR against Modi couldn’t be registered!” said Khalid Azam, a social activist.

“Unless politicians and privileged elites are brought on par with the common man in the treatment meted to them by the judiciary and law enforcement, an average citizen’s trust in these institutions will continue to erode!,” he averred.
