Tablighi Jamaat chief passes away

New Delhi, 19 March 2014: Maulana Zubair-ul Hasan Kandholwi, chief of Tablighi Jamaat, India’s largest and purely religious organization, passed away here Tuesday morning. He was 61. He was going through kidney treatment for last one week at Ram Manohar Lohia hospital where he breathed his last around 11 am on 18 March.

As the news spread about his death, thousands of his followers from across the city thronged to the Banglawali Masjid, the headquarters of Tablighi Jamaat at Hazrat Nizamuddin locality. Funeral prayer was held after Isha prayer at the mosque and he was buried in the courtyard of the mosque.

Muslim leaders of all eminent organizations and politicians have condoled the death of Maulana Zuber.

Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Omari, Amir (National President) of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has expressed deep sorrow at the demise of Tablighi Jamaat chief and said: “The Millat has lost a veteran and selfless religious leader and a great personality. It is not a big loss of only Tablighi Jamaat but also the entire Indian Muslim community.”

K Rahman Khan, Union Minister for Minority Affairs has also expressed grief over the demise of Maulana Zubair.

“Hazrat Maulana Zubair Hasan was selected as Amir, Tablighi Jamat in 1995 after the death of his father Maulana Inamul Hasan RAH. Maulana Zubair took over the responsibility at a time when Tablighi Jamat had become an international movement and there was a strong need of its consolidation. Maulana proved himself true to the standards as set out by the seniors of the movement. During last two decades, Maulana has strengthened the movement enormously by his hard work, dedication for the movement and knowledge. May God grant peace to the departed soul and provide us an opportunity to follow the path shown by him. Amen!,” said the minister in his condolence message.
