Dignitaries from across society attend last rites of Khushwant Singh

New Delhi, 20 March 2014: Several eminent personalities from social, political and religious spheres of the society gathered here at Dayanand Ghat Electric Crematorium to attend the last rites of India’s eminent author and journalist Khushwant Singh who died early this morning at the age of 99. He is survived by son Rahul Singh and daughter Mala Singh.

At least three cabinet ministers reached the crematorium to offer last tribute to Singh. They included External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid, Energy Minister Farooq Abdullah and IT minister Kapil Sibal.

Top leader of Bharatiya Janata Party LK Advani and Aroun Shourie also came up there.

Many renowned faces from the Muslim community were also there to condole the death of the veteran writer and express sympathy with his family members. Muslim faces included Syed Shahabuddin, former MP and diplomat, Mohammad Salim Engineer, Secretary, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and AU Asif, Associate Editor, Chauthi Duniya weekly.
