New Delhi, 26 March 2014: Dozens of students from various universities of Delhi on Wednesday organized a joint protest at Delhi Police’s Special Cell office against the ‘illegal’ detention of two youths who were from Jamia Nagar of Delhi on Sunday morning. Protesters condemned detention of the youths.

Student Union of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNUSU) has condemned “this pre-election stoking of communal paranoia based on fabricated allegations of plotting against Narendra Modi and targeting innocent Muslim young men in the name of security.”

“It is also highly significant that the police have not followed the due process of law while detaining these two young Muslim men,” they said in a statement.

“The shoddy manner in which the security agencies picked up these men without even a warrant shows how the security agencies are trying to avoid the paper trail of evidence in order to achieve their ulterior motive of communalising the pre-election atmosphere on the pretext of security threats,” reads the statement of the student body.

It was a rare protest outside of the office of Special Cell. Members of various student groups including AISA, DSU, DSF, SFI, AISF took part in the demonstration.

The two who youths were picked Sunday morning were released on late night following huge protest and road blockade by local residents.
