New Delhi, 08 June 2014: A New Delhi-based social-activist group known as the Popular Front of India (PFI) held a protest at the Maharashtra Sadan in New Delhi on 07 June against the murder of an IT professional in Pune by a Hindu-fanatic group.

The PFI condemned the murder of the Pune techie, Mohsin Sadiq Shaikh and the riots and terror unleashed by the “saffaron mobs” all over Maharashtra.

At the protest, Talha Hussain, National Treasurer of Campus Front of India (CFI) questioned whether these were the “ache din (good days)” that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised. He also went on to say that the PM was too busy with the saree sent from Nawaz Sharif that he has kept silent on the Pune-techie murder.

Umar Khalid, a member of the Democratic Students Union said that such fringe groups are an extension of the state to instill terror into the public.

“These mob groups are the extension of the state, when a state is unable to suppress valid demands and voices they use these kind of tactics to suppress the voices and the rights of downtrodden,” he said.

“Coming days are going to be too challenging and we can only overcome by our unity as our strength,” he continued.

A delegation of the group met with the Resident Commissioner of Maharashtra Bhawan with a list of demands to the Maharashtra government. These were:

1) Mohsin’s family must be compensated with at least Rs. 10 lakh.
2) A family member of the slain victim’s family must be given a government job.
3) All the victims of vandalism must be paid for their losses.
4) Punish the organizations named in the vandalism and murder.
5) Ensure safety to Minorities and their property.

Mohsin Sadiq Shaikh was brutally beaten to death in Pune this past Monday due to his Muslim appearance by a gang of youths related to a Hindu fanatic group known as the Hindu Rashtra Sena, while on his way back from performing night prayers at a nearby mosque.
