AMU ahead of JNU in Asia university rankings

Aligarh, 19 June 2014: The Aligarh Muslim University has secured third position among Indian universities in the Asia Universities Ranking 2014 published by the Times Higher Education (THE), London, UK. The Punjab University, Chandigarh has topped the ranking among Indian institutions of higher learning.

The Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2014, powered by Thomson Reuters has ranked the Punjab University 32nd while Jadavpur University, Kolkata has secured 76th, Aligarh Muslim University 80th and the JNU 90th rank in the survey in Asia.

Besides these full-fledged universities, top notch IITs of Kharagpur and Kanpur have been ranked 45th and 55th. The IIT of Delhi and Roorkee have shared the 59th rank while IIT Guwahati and IIT Madras have secured 74 and 76th rank respectively.

The Times Higher Education rankings are based on core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

Vice Chancellor of AMU Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah has expressed happiness on the achievement. He said that the concerted efforts of all stakeholders in the University’s development have started showing result and soon AMU will secure a place in the ranking of world universities
