Minorities Commission to donate one day salary for Kashmir flood relief

New Delhi, 19 Sep 2014: The National Commission for Minorities (NCM) on Friday announced to donate one day salary of all staff for the flood victims of Jammu and Kashmir. The donation will be deposited in the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.

The commission has expressed its sympathy and support to the people in the State of Jammu & Kashmir regarding their sufferings due to the recent unprecedented floods in the State.

“The Commission has, accordingly, decided to donate one day salary to the flood victims of J&K which will be deposited in the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund,” said Surjit Chaudhary, Secretary of the commission in a media statement.

Two days back, the commission had written to the Governor of Madhya Pradesh for protection of Professor Jawahar Lal Kaul, Vice-Chancellor of Vikram University in Ujjain district of the state. Prof. Kaul was allegedly attacked and his office ransacked by a group of saffron outfit for making an appeal to help the Kashmiri students of the varsity in the wake of the flood disaster back home. The commission also demanded action against the culprits.

On Thursday, Minister For Minority Affairs Najma Heptulla had annouced a package of Rs 120 crore for Jammu and Kashmir that included scholarship schemes for the students.
