New Delhi, 11 Nov 2014: Security and prosperity are of utmost importance to the minorities, said Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi Tuesday after assuming office as a Minister of State for Minority Affairs. Naqvi was among 21 new ministers inducted in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s council of ministers on Sunday.

Interacting with media, Naqvi, a senior member of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, said he would strive to instil among minorities, “the feeling of being participants and stakeholders in the process of development of the country by protecting them from falling prey to the feeling of alienation.”

He said he will prefer working in close association with people to eliminate middlemen and ensuring that benefits of various schemes reach the desired target.

Najma Heptuall is cabinet minister for Minority Affairs. She had assumed office in May this year after BJP won the Lok Sabha elections and formed government at the centre dethroning Congress-led UPA government.

Dr. Arvind Mayaram, the Secretary and other senior officers of the Ministry greeted the Minister.
