New Delhi, 02 Feb 2015: The Republic Day ad this year from the central government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was ‘innovative’ in that it used the image of Constitution’s original Preamble (pre-1976 amendment version) which was devoid of ‘Secular’ and ‘Socialist’ adjectives of the nation. The move of the BJP government, which champions for Hindutva ideologies and wants India to become a Hindu Rashtra, has been described in this sketch by eminent cartoonist Yusuf Munna as another form of conversion – this time of the Constitution.

However, meanwhile succumbing to the strong objections from Opposition parties and civil groups over the R-Day ad, the Information & Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley has reportedly directed the ministry officials to ensure that henceforth Government advertisements should use the 1976 version of the Preamble to the Constitution.
