Jaipur, 23 May 2015: Ganpat, one of those wounded in the attack on a Dalit family in Nagaur district of Rajasthan last week, succumbed to injuries in an Ajmer hospital Saturday morning. Ganpat was among one dozen people wounded in the attack on the house of one Ratnaram Meghwal in Dangavas village of Nagaur district on 14th May. Ganpat’s family has reportedly refused to take his body.

Tek Chand Rahul, Rajasthan president of Ambedkarite Party of India, informed IndiaTomorrow.net that Ganpat died of the injury today and his family has refused to take the body. They are demanding justice and arrest of culprits. Rahul is in contact with the victim family.

He also said that the state government has given mandatory compensation under the SC/ST law and nothing else.

Rahul accused the BJP government of Rajasthan of not taking action against the culprits under political pressure.

“No action is being taken under political pressure. Thanks to their population, MLAs and MPs of Jat community are in good number. They are united irrespective of party affiliation. Every government of any party is under their pressure,” Rahul said adding that his party is going to hold a protest demonstration in Jaipur on 29 May.

Talking to IndiaTomorrow.net, Er Rashid Hussain, state president of Welfare Party of India also said that his party and other social groups are planning to hold a big protest in Jaipur in a day or two.
He said that the administration came into action only at the visit P.L. Punia, Chairperson of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes.

“Only after Punia’s visit, administration came into action and four of the accused were arrested. But they have sat down after he left the state. Victim family is still terrorised. Fourteen are named accused in the case. But only four of them have been arrested, and that too on Punia’s visit,” he said.
A 5-member team that included Rahul, Hussain and state secretary of Forum For Democracy and Communal Amity Dr. M iqbal Siddiqui last week visited Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital in Ajmer where the injured Dalits are being treated and talked to the victims and their family members.

“The attack on Meghwal family was carried out in a planned way,” said the team in a statement adding that the dispute related to land. The team also demanded a CBI probe into the whole incident.

People’s Union For Civil Liberties (PUCL) has blamed police for the incident and expressed surprise at the indifferent attitude of administration and politicians. “We are surprised that even after such a serious crime, neither administrative nor political leadership like Home Secretary or DIG or chief minister or home minister have visited the place.”
