Jaipur/New Delhi, 15 Sep 2015: Challenging the BJP-ruled Rajasthan government’s order to organize blood donation camps on the most likely Eid al-Adha day on 25 Sep, the Forum for Democracy and Communal Amity (FDCA) filed a public interest litigation (PIL) with the Rajasthan High Court on Tuesday, 15 September 2015.

Condemning the contentious government’s move to commemorate the birth anniversary of RSS ideologue Pundit Deen Dayal Upadhyay on the Eid day, FDCA state chief Sawai Singh said, “This move of the state government is totally un-constitutional and sheer breech of civil rights of the college staff and blood donation teams.”

The Rajasthan Directorate of College Education issued an order on 2 September to the principals of all government and public colleges of the state to organize blood donation camps to commemorate the birth anniversary of late Pundit Deen Dayal Upadhyay, an ideologue of Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and prominent Bharatiya Jana Sangh leader. The decision riveted nationwide protests and ire in the following days.

Singh thinks that in the garb of celebrating the birth anniversary of their leader, the BJP government of chief minister Vasundhara Raje is trying to cancel the gazetted holiday of Eid al- Adha, which is eventually falling on 25th September this year.

“Ever since the BJP has come to power, it is busy in implementing the communal agenda of the ‘Sangh Parivar’ and spreading hatred among the people,” he said.

The FDCA stated it had sent a letter to the state’s chief secretary seeking an appointment to talk on the issue but did not receive any response. “After no response on part of the government, we moved the court,” Singh said. “Eidul Azha is one of the major festivals of the Muslims, which they have every right to celebrate with their families. This right must not be taken away from them. Similarly, it is the right of all citizens to enjoy the gazetted holiday,” added Singh with assertion.
