Jaipur, 20 Sep 2015: Two Azamgarh men in early twenties were arrested by the police in Jaipur on Saturday afternoon allegedly in suspicious condition and slapped with a criminal case. However, Arman and Arsalan, both from Sanjarpur village in Azamgarh of Uttar Pradesh, were released by the city court on bail today.

Arman’s brother is in the Jaipur jail in a terror case. He had come to the city to give clothes and other items to his brother to celebrate the upcoming Eid al-Adha inside the jail. Arsalan is brother of Saif, one of the accused in the Batla House encounter case of Delhi. The Jaipur police have filed a case against Arman and Arsalan under sections 151 and 109 of Indian Penal Code.

However, human rights activists have condemned their arrest and registration of criminal case against them saying the two were innocent and police falsely implicated them. They alleged that the police are doing profiling of Muslim youngsters.

“If the police wanted to enquire them and when the youths gave all details about them, their brothers, their lawyers and the police also talked to their family then what was the need to arrest them and lodge a criminal case against them,” asked Rashid Hussain, Rajasthan president of Welfare Party of India.

He alleged that the two were implicated as the police have instructions to do profiling of Muslim youngsters.

“It seems police have instructions to do profiling of Muslim youngsters whenever they get chance. We strongly condemn it. The govt. must stop it. This is wrong. Whichever party is in power, BJP or Congress, it should be stopped,” said Rashid who and other community leaders long argued with the police officers to release the Azamgarh youths before they were formally slapped with the criminal case. PUCL Rajasthan secretary Kavita Srivastava, APCR state chief Paikar Farooq and Jamaat-e-Islami Hind secretary Mohammad Iqbal had also talked to the police seeking their release.
