Patna, 08 Nov 2015: All six candidates of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen of Asaduddin Owaisi have got huge defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections whose results were announced Sunday. An analysis of the result details shows that Muslims in Seemanchal where Owaisi had fielded candidates had little confusion about their choice while going to the polling booth, otherwise BJP would have won five out of the six seats.

Of the six MIM candidates, one each emerged at No 2, 3, 4 and 5 while two ended up at No. 6. The best performance of the party was on Kochadaman seat in Kishanganj where party candidate and state president Akhtarul Iman finished as runner-up with more than 37 thousand votes.

Showing wisdom to minimize the division of non-BJP votes, three-time MP from Hyderabad and MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi fielded only six candidates while he had earlier announced to contest all 24 seats in the Muslim-dominated Seemanchal. But it seems the Muslim voters in the area have proved wiser than Owaisi.

It seems the situation developed in the country following BJP’s victory in the May 2014 elections, the recent incidents of growing intolerance and cases of lynching over beef united the Muslim voters in favour of the secular Grand Alliance. They had so clear in mind that they did not favour even Muslim candidates of BJP. And more importantly, they did not give a thought to the choice offered by MIM. Had they been confused, the situation could be a bit different there.

Of the six seats where MIM contested, BJP has emerged at No. 2 on five seats. While JDU and Congress have won two seats each, RJD and CPI-ML have won one each.

Interestingly, five of the six seats have been won by Muslim candidates and the one, reserved for Scheduled Caste, was won by Achmit Rishidev of JDU.

MIM has recently opened its account in the Uttar Pradesh panchayat elections with the party winning four seats.

In the 2014 Maharashtra assembly elections, it had won two seats.

In the elections for the 243-seat state Assembly, the Grand Alliance of JDU, RJD and Congress has registered huge victory with winning 178 seats while the BJP-led NDA has got just 58 seats.

Commenting on the results of Bihar, Owaisi said: “It’s a personal defeat of Modi as never before a prime minister campaigned so much in an election.”

He said that people of Bihar have given decisive mandate against communalism and fascism

“The atmosphere in Bihar was that Modi should be defeated. Muslims and other communities had decided to defeat Modi,” said Owaisi.
