AMU VC to meet PM day after Opposition raised minority status issue in Parliament

New Delhi, March 05: Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (retd) will be reportedly meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi here Saturday evening over the issue of minority status of the 19th century university. The Opposition leaders cornered the government over the issue in the Rajya Sabha on Friday.

The members of Opposition parties led by the Congress and Samajwadi Party raised the issue of alleged government interference in Aligarh Muslim University and its changed affidavit in the Supreme Court over the pending case of minority status.

JD(U)’s Sharad Yadav, Congress’s Digvijaya Singh and CPI (M)’s Sitaram Yechury cornered the government over the issue.

In response, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi assured the house that his government was committed to protecting the minority status of AMU and other minority institutions.
