Home Minister Rajnath Singh is responsible for national security. But he has no compunctions in intimidating fellow Indians for votes. Sad & shameful — Randeep Singh Surjewala

IndiaTomorrow.net,
New Delhi, Nov 08: The Congress party has strongly condemned Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh for using “provocative” and “intimidating” language in his speech at BJP’s election rally in communally-polarized Kairana area, adjacent to Muzaffarnagar, in Uttar Pradesh.

“Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s coarse, crude language tells us that BJP will stoop to the lowest common denominator for votes. Should Rajnath Singh have indulged in such pathetic, pedestrian and provocative language & open threats for soliciting votes,” asked Congress leader and party’s national spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala.

In his speech during BJP’s Parivartan Yatra in Kairana on Monday, Rajnath Singh had reportedly said that self-respect of mothers and sisters is being looted in the region and if his party came to power in the state it will act against the people using muscle power to terrorise people.

“Jo gundagardi ke aadhaar par logon ke dilon mein dehshat paida karne ka kaam karta hai, behno aur bhaiyon, Bharatiya Janata Party ki sarkar ke aane ke baad, hum dekhenge ki usne kitna ma ka doodh piya hai,” The Indian Express quoted Singh as saying.

BJP MP from Kairana Hukum Singh had earlier accused Muslims of forcing local Hindus to migrate.

“Kya halat ho gayi hai yahan par? Mataon aur behno ki asmat looti ja rahi hai. People are being framed in false cases,” Singh reportedly said.
Congress leader Surjewala described Singh’s speech as sad and shameful.

“Home Minister Rajnath Singh is responsible for national security. But he has no compunctions in intimidating fellow Indians for votes. Sad & shameful,” Surjewala tweeted.

In Sep 2013, Kairana’s neighboring Muzaffarnagar district had witnessed communal violence which claimed around 50 lives and displacement of over 50 thousand people, mostly Muslims. Around 25,000 of the homeless moved to Kairana and have since been living there.
