1st Phase of UP Polls: Every 5th candidate has criminal case, every 3rd is crorepati

New Delhi, Feb 4: Every fifth candidate contesting in the 1st Phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections has criminal cases pending against him or her, says Association for Democratic Reform (ADR) in its latest report today.

According to ADR, there 839 candidates for 73 seats going to polls on 11th Feb. Some 836 of them were analysed and it was found that 168 of them (i.e. 20%) has criminal cases pending against them. Some 143 candidates (17%) have serious criminal cases.

The ADR report further says that 302 (36%) candidates are crorepati.
