Phase 1 of UP Elections: Who is richest candidate and who is poorest?

Lucknow, Feb 5: Who is the richest and who is the poorest among 839 candidates in the 1st phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections? Interestingly, both come from a particular community. But the richest is from Congress party and the ‘poorest’ is contesting as Independent.

Three Richest Candidates
With assets worth more than Rs 211 crores, Nazir Ahmad is the richest candidate in the 1st phase of polls due on 11 Feb. Ahmad, candidate of Congress party, is contesting from Agra South assembly constituency in Agra district. In his self-sworn affidavit to the Election Commission, Ahmad has declared that he has moveable assets worth Rs 1,94,21,70,975 and immovable assets worth Rs 17,25,40,000, making a total of Rs 2,11,47,10,975.

Ahmad is followed by two BJP candidates.

Satish Kumar Sharma, contesting from Mant constituency in Mathura district, has declared assets worth more than Rs 114 crores – moveable assets worth Rs 16,77,76,333 and immovable assets worth Rs 97,52,05,508, making a total of Rs 1,14,29,81,841.

At No. 3 is Rani Pakshalika Singh, BJP candidate in Bah constituency in Agra district. She has declared assets worth more than Rs 58 crore – moveable assets worth Rs 3,16,74,813 and immoveable assets worth Rs 55,13,24,000, making a total of Rs 58,29,98,813

Three Candidates with Lowest Assets
The ‘poorest’ candidate or the one who has declared he has zero asset is Parvez Ali. As an Independent candidate, Ali is contesting from Thana Bhawan constituency in Shamli district.

Besides Ali, there are three lowest asset candidates.

Ambedkari Hasanuram Ambedkari, Independent candidate in Kheragarh constituency in Agra, has declared assets just worth Rs 1,000.

Geeta, from Sarv Sambhaav Party in Bhagpat, has assets worth Rs 4,000 while Raj Kumar, contesting from Hastinapur (SC) seat in Meerut as candidate of Rashtriya Kisan Majdoor Party, has assets worth Rs 5,000.

Crorepati candidates

There are 302 crorepati candidates in 1st phase of polls in UP.

BSP has the highest number of crorepati candidates. Out of its 73 candidates, 66 are crorepati. It is followed by BJP with 61 crorepatis. While the ruling SP has 40 such candidates out of 51, its ally Congress has 18 crorepatis out of 24 candidates.
