2nd Phase of UP Elections: 107 candidates with criminal cases, 256 crorepatis

New Delhi, Feb 9: In the 2nd Phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, due on 15 Feb, there are 721 candidates in the fray. Out of 719 analysed, 107 of them have criminal cases pending in the courts while 84 have serious criminal cases including cases related to murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping and crimes against women, said Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).

Party-wise candidates with criminal cases
16(24%) out of 67 candidates from Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP)
25 (37%) out of 67 candidates from Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP)
6 (12%) out of 52 candidates from Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD)
21 (41%) out of 51 candidates from Samajwadi Party (SP)
6 (33%) out of 18 candidates from Indian National Congress (INC)
13 (6%) out of 206 Independent candidates

Crorepati candidates
There 256 crorepatis i.e. 36% of 719 candidates analysed.

58(87%) out of 67 candidates from BSP
50(75%) out of 67 candidates from BJP
45 (88%) out of 51 candidates from SP
13(72%) out of 18 candidates from INC
15(29%) out of 52 candidates from RLD
36 (18%) out of 206 Independent candidates have declared assets worth more than Rs. 1 crore.
