Jaipur, March 21: Alleging biased police action against owners and staffers of a Muslim hotel here over beef suspicion, hundreds of people took out a protest demonstration and urged the Jaipur Police Commissioner to take action against guilty policemen and members of cow protection group.

People protest in Jaipur against police action against a Muslim hotel on beef suspicion.

On 19th March night, at the call of some members of a local cow vigilante group, the Jaipur Police raided Hotel Hayat Rabbani, forced guests out, arrested co-owner and a cleaner and sealed the hotel. Then, the police collected allegedly left-over meat from hotel dustbin and sent for forensic test.

The protesters alleged that the police acted in haste just on the allegations about beef being served there. The police should have waited for the forensic report before taking any action.

The hotel in Jaipur was sealed by Police over beef suspicion on 19 March 2017.

In a memorandum to the Jaipur Police Commissioner Sanjay Agarwal, eminent civil rights activist Kavita Srivastava said: “The way Japur Police and Jaipur Municipal Corporation bent down before the cow vigilantes and allowed them to attack at the hotel and shut it down exposes the character of the two agencies.”

Naeem Rabbani, owner of Hotel Hayat Rabbani, addressing the protesters in Jaipur.

She demanded immediate unlocking of the hotel and release of the co-owner and staffer.

Signatories to the memorandum included PUCL, CPI, Janwadi Mahila Samiti, SDPI, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and Dalit Adhikar Manch.
