New Delhi, April 2: Aam Aadmi Party leader and Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, while addressing a public election meeting on Saturday, asked why biryani in one’s fridge can checked to see if there is beef, mutton or chicken in it but EVMs can’t be checked even when people are loudly alleging rigging and malpractice in them.

Addressing a large gathering in Okhla area of Delhi, Sisodia urged people not to take lightly the upcoming elections for Municipal Corporations of Delhi (MCD), rather as a fight for Idea of India.

“After Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Uttarakhand, the elections for MCD, though called local elections, but are indeed for ideas. This is election for which idea India wants to go with,” he said.

“Whether it is beef, mutton or chicken in biryani stored in your fridge can be investigated but if I openly say there is scam in EVM it won’t be investigated. Today attempts are being made to push India with such idea. We are being forced to live in an India where they will decide what we should keep in our fridge, what we should eat, how we should move out with our sisters, daughters and mother and police will seek certificate from us,” said AAP leader while addressing the gathering in Muslim-dominated Shaheen Bagh area.

“Therefore, I am here to tell you that this is not just a municipal election, this election is for an idea – the Idea of India – the idea of peace, communal harmony between Hindus and Muslims and composite culture. Please don’t take this election lightly,” he urged the voters.

Earlier in the day on Saturday, he and other leaders of AAP, under the leadership of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, had met Chief Election Commissioner and sought probe into the alleged EVM rigging in Madhya Pradesh where during a mock-test in the presence of state’s Chief Electoral Officer, an EVM was found recording votes for BJP candidate only whichever button on it was pressed.

A delegation of Congress party also met the Election Commission with similar demand.

Taking serious note of media reports and political representations over the alleged EVM rigging in Madhya Pradesh, the Election Commission of India dispatched two teams of senior officers to the BJP-ruled state “to ensure free and fair election and absolute neutrality of the officers.” By-polls for two assembly seats are due there next week.
