You can protect cows, why not women facing atrocities, asks Jaya Bachchan

New Delhi, April 12: Member of Rajya Sabha Jaya Bachchan on Wednesday cornered the ruling BJP over murder threats by party’s youth leader to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Speaking in the Upper House of Indian Parliament here today, Samajwadi Party leader denounced the head bounty offer from Yogesh Varshney, a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha in West Bengal.

“There is a need to take aggressive steps for protection of women. You can protect cows, but doing nothing when atrocities unleashed on women. A member of your party has threatened the chief minister. Today women are feeling very very insecure. Is this what you are promoting,” asked Jaya.

She was obviously referring to the violent incidents of cow vigilantism in different parts of the country. Only last week, a mob of Gau Rakshaks lynched a Muslim man in Alwar district of BJP-ruled Rajasthan.
