Ranchi, May 19: In another incident of lynching in a Jharkhand village late Thursday night, three more persons were lynched by a mob over suspicion that they were child lifters. Early in the day, three others were lynched on similar suspicion.
In Nagadih village of district Singhbhum, villagers lynched three persons suspecting them to be child lifters last night. While an old woman who was also thrashed, got severely injured, and was later admitted to a hospital in Jamshedpur.
These three victims were identified as Vikas Kumar Verma, Uttam Kumar Verma and Ganesh Kumar Gupta hailing from Jugsalai and Bagbera towns of Singhbhum district. Vikas and Gautam were real brothers.
District Singhbhum is adjacent to district Seraikela-Kharsawa where earlier on Thursday four cattle traders were also lynched over the rumor of being child lifters in three adjacent villages namely Shobhapur, Soso and Moli.
The Four victims were identified as Naeem, Khali, Farzu and Raju.
In both cases, when the police arrived at the locations, clashes erupted between the police and the villagers that left some police men injured.
The state government has announced to give a compensation of Rs 2 lac to the kin of each victim. The police have also asked the villagers not to pay heed to rumors.
Since last week, total ten people have been lynched in three such incidents over the rumor of child theft in the region.
Last week, three persons were also lynched in the Seraikela-Kharsawa district for being suspected child lifters.
