New Delhi, May 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday used Persian language to congratulate Hassan Rouhani on his victory in the Iran presidential election. PM Modi wished him on his re-election and expressed India’s commitment to strengthen bilateral ties with Iran.

Persian is the official language of Iran and is spoken there by almost entire population of the country. This ancient language was also official language of India during the 800 years-long Mughal rule and also for long time during the British raj.

PM Modi made three tweets in Persian and later posted their English version also soon after the results of the Iran elections were declared Saturday evening.
