New Delhi, May 24: Both Congress and Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday won one seat each in the by-polls for two seats of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). BJP – the party which had got landslide victory in the MCD polls for 270 seats last month – could not impress the voters now. Polling in the two seats was postponed due to the death of candidates.

While Mukesh Goel of Congress won Sarai Pipal Thala ward of North Delhi Municipal Corporation, Reshma Nadeem of AAP won Maujpur seat in East Delhi Municipal Corporation. Elections for the two seats were held 21 May and 14 May respectively.

Aam Aadmi Party candidate Reshma Nadeem won Maujpur ward of Delhi municipal corporation.

In the 23 April election for 270 seats of MCD, BJP had got sweeping victory as it won 181 out of 270 seats. While Congress had won 30, AAP had won 48 seats. After Tuesday’s win, Congress tally is 31 and AAP’s 49.

For the last 10 years, BJP has been ruling all three municipal corporations of Delhi.
