Even two days after new chairperson assumed office, minority commission’s site showing post vacant

New Delhi, May 28: Syed Ghayorul Hasan Rizvi, a social activist from Uttar Pradesh, assumed charge of Chairperson of the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) here on Friday (26th May) but even after two days, the official website of the commission is showing his post vacant as it has been showing for the past two and half months. Former IAS and former Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University Naseem Ahmed retired as Chairperson of NCM on 3rd March this year.

Last week, the central government appointed Rizvi as chairperson and four others as Members. They are: George Kurian (BJP leader from Kerala), Sulekha Kumbhare (former Maharashtra minister), Sunil Singhi (Jain representative from Gujarat) and Vada Dasturji Khurshed, chief priest of Udvada Athornan Anjuman.

But the NCM website is still showing posts of all six members vacant.

The post of Vice Chairperson is vacant since Dec 2012.

According to a communication from the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs, Syed Ghayorul Hasan Rizvi is a graduate in Arts and also holds Diploma in Mechanics. He served as Chairman, Uttar Pradesh Minority Finance Development Corporation Ltd.

“Rizvi has been actively participating in social service. He worked for the improvement of the basic facilities and working conditions of Beedi workers and Weaver community in Uttar Pradesh. He also worked for Communal Harmony and National Integrity,” said the ministry.
