Bokaro (Jharkhand), Aug 1: In another case of brutal mob violence, a young man was badly assaulted Tuesday morning in Jharkhand’s Bokaro district. The victim identified as Mohammad Shakir was stripped and flogged by the mob after allegedly being found with a girl from the majority community.
According to locals, Shakir, said to be a staff member of Pragya Center, was caught with the girl in the Center in the morning. In no time, a mob turned up at the centre, dragged Shakir out and assaulted. He was fully stripped and moved naked around the locality.
Shakir got serious internal injuries in the assault and has been admitted at the Bokaro Thermal hospital.
The police have lodged an FIR but no arrest has been made so far even though both in photos and videos assaulters are clearly seen.
Soon after the incident, local shopkeepers shut down their shops. They were opened later in the evening.
Huge contingent of police and Central Reserved Police Force have been deployed in the area to maintain peace and law and order.
Afzal Anees, state coordinator of United Milli Forum, said it was planned not spontaneous attack by the mob.
“This is an attempt to provoke the mob by violating the law for lynching/killing. It is a matter of investigation as to how the local right wing people propagated this incident. There should be a high level probe into the matter. It is very shameful for our area and the state that mobs are now deciding issues by taking law in their hands,” Anees said.
