Patna, Aug 11: Even as the simmering grows within, the Janata Dal-United of Nitish Kumar suspended senior party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Ali Anwar Ansari from its parliamentary board on Friday. The party took the decision on the day when former party president and also Rajya Sabha MP Sharad Yadav was interacting with people in villages and towns of north Bihar and Ansari was attending a meeting of Opposition parties in Delhi.
Both Ansari and Yadav have publicly disapproved the decision of Bihar Chief Minister Kumar to move out of the Grand Alliance of JD-U, RJD and Congress overnight and form new government with inside support of BJP – the party against which the JD-U and the Grand Alliance had fought the 2015 state Assembly polls and bagged the people’s mandate to rule.
Yadav began his 3-day public interaction tour on Thursday and is getting big support from the people.
Meanwhile, Nitish has reportedly said that Yadav should either support JD-U’s alliance with BJP-led NDA or was free to choose his way.
Last week, party’s lone MLA in Gujarat defied the party order and voted in favour of Congress leader Ahmed Patel in the Rajya Sabha election. Earlier, the Kerala unit of the party also opposed the Kumar’s decision to join BJP.
The Janata Dal-United on Friday suspended its rebel MP Ali Anwar Ansari for taking part in a meeting of opposition parties convened by Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
Party leader K. C. Tyagi said Ansari has been “suspended from the parliamentary party” for attending the meeting.
Ansari, who is a Rajya Sabha MP, along with party leader Sharad Yadav have expressed differences with party chief Nitish Kumar’s decision to snap ties with Congress and RJD and form a government in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Leaders of Congress and 15 other opposition parties met here on Thursday to take forward their coordination against the Narendra Modi government.
