IndiaTomorrow.net,
New Delhi, Oct 14: The Twitter on Saturday announced to formulate some new rules to counter online harassment, hate, violence and tweets that glorify violence. The microblogging site has made the announcement in response to the viral #WomenBoycottTwitter campaign.

“We’ve been working intensely over the past few months and focused today on making some critical decisions. We decided to take a more aggressive stance in our rules and how we enforce them. New rules around: unwanted sexual advances, non-consensual nudity, hate symbols, violent groups, and tweets that glorify violence,” said Twitter Chief Executive Officer Jack Dorsey in a series of tweets Saturday.

The #WomenBoycottTwitter trend was started on Friday after several women users decided to boycott twitter following suspension of the account of Hollywood actor Rose McGwan who had reportedly accused a film producer of sexual assault.

In India also in recent time, women activists, journalists and academicians have faced threats on Twitter. In the wake of the journalist Gauri Lankesh murder, some Twitter users were found glorifying the killing.
