New Delhi, Nov 01: Agitated over alleged assistance of Additional Advocate General (AAG) Naveen Kaushik to the defense lawyer in slain Junaid Khan’s case, people have demanded his removal. Having doubts over receiving a fair trial in a “BJP ruled state”, they have also demanded to transfer the case outside Haryana.

Junaid Khan, 16, was beaten and then stabbed to death by a group of men in the Delhi-Mathura EMU local train near Faridabad railway station in Haryana on 22nd June. He was returning home to Ballabhgarh along with his two brothers after Eid shopping in Delhi. His brothers Hashim Khan (19) and Shakir Khan (22) also received severe injuries in the assault. Attackers allegedly also passed communal comments by calling them “Beef eaters” and “anti-national”. Total five people had been arrested by the police in the case thus far.

Last week, during the hearing of the case, it was observed by the Additional District and Sessions Judge that Kaushik was helping the lawyer pleading the case of accused. On this Hon’ble Court also asked the Haryana government, the Advocate General’s Office and the Bar Council to take action against Kaushik.

Some social activists along with students held a protest outside Haryana Bhawan here in New Delhi on Wednesday demanding Kaushik’s removal. They raised slogans against Haryana CM Khattar Government of Haryana and submitted a memorandum in this regard.

“In last hearing there was a statement from Hon’ble Court that the counsel of Haryana government. AAG, Naveen Kaushik was helping accused rather than victim. While it is the duty of Government counsel to help victims and to punish the culprits, Kaushik was helping the accused by telling their defense lawyer to ask some specific questions to the witnesses. So, this statement of court is itself very important that government counsel was helping the accused in the case,” social activist Nadeem Khan said while speaking to IndiaTomorrow.net.

“Naveen Kaushik is a member of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) who represent BJP in TV debates. So, our demand is very clear to the Haryana government and which is to immediately suspend Naveen Kaushik and book a case against him,” Khan demanded.

Besides activists some student leaders also participated in the protest.

“Since beginning we have been saying that if such kind of case proceeds in any BJP ruled state, there is no scope of justice. So, we want this case should be transferred in a non-BJP ruled state,” Mohit K Pandey, former president of JNUSU demanded.

Meanwhile Haryana Advocate General on Wednesday has asked AAG Naveen Kaushik to resign.

Kaushik’s affiliation to RSS and BJP

Reportedly Kaushik has been associated with the RSS since his childhood. He is also associated with the Bharatiya Bhasha Abhiyan and Adhivakta Parishad (Chandigarh unit), an RSS-affiliated advocates’ organization. When the BJP came to power in the state in 2014, Kaushik was among the first lawyers to be selected on the government panel.
