IndiaTomorrow.net,
New Delhi, Dec 12: Through an eloquent letter, former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his allegations that the Congress party held a “secret meeting” with Pakistani officials to influence Gujarat assembly elections. Expressing his anguish, Dr. Singh asked PM Modi to stop “tarnish every constitutional office” by spreading “falsehood and canards” to score political gain and apologize to the nation.

“I am deeply pained and anguished by the falsehood and canards being spread to score political points in a lost cause by none less than Prime Minister, Sh. Narender Modi. Fearing imminent defeat in Gujarat, desperation of Prime Minister to hurl every abuse and latch on to every straw is palpable. Sadly & regrettably, Sh. Modi is setting a dangerous precedent by his insatiable desire to tarnish every constitutional office, including that of a Former Prime Minister and Army Chief,” Dr. Singh wrote to Modi.

Rejecting the allegations Dr Singh said, “I reject the innuendos and falsehoods as I did not discuss Gujarat elections with anyone else at the dinner hosted by Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar as alleged by Shri Modi. Nor was the Gujarat issue raised by anyone else present at the dinner. The discussion was confined to India-Pakistan relations.”

“I sincerely hope that he will apologize to the Nation for his ill thought transgression to restore the dignity of the office he occupies,” he said.

Further lambasting over BJP and PM Modi, Dr Singh said, “The Congress Party needs no sermons on “Nationalism” from a party and Prime Minister, whose compromised track record on fighting terrorism is well known. Let me remind Sh. Narender Modi that he had gone to Pakistan uninvited after the terrorist attacks in Udhampur and Gurdaspur. Let him also tell the country the reason for inviting the infamous ISI of Pakistan to our strategic Air Base in Pathankot to investigate a terror attack that emanated from Pakistan.”

“My Track record of public service to the country over last five decades is known to everyone. No one including Sh. Modi can lamely question it to gain lost political ground,” he averred.

During a recent election rally in Gujarat, PM Modi had alleged that some congress party leaders including former PM Manmohan Singh and former Vice-President Dr Hamid Ansari had a secret meeting with Pakistan’s high commissioner and former foreign ministers officials at the residence of senior party leader Mani Shankar Aiyar, intended to influence state’s elections.

According to the list of dignitaries released by Dr Singh besides him, Mr. & Mrs Aiyer, former Army General Deepak former, former Vice-President Dr Hamid, former foreign minister K Natwar Singh , former diplomats Salman Haider, TCA Raghvan, Sharat Sabharwal, K Shankar Bajpai, Chinmaya Gherkhan, Pakistan high commissioner and Khurshid Kasuri, former external affairs minister of Pakistan, attended the dinner at at Aiyer’s residence on 6th December.

General Kapoor also called out Modi and cleared that only Indo-Pak releations were discussed in the meeting.

“Yes I was the part of meeting and we discussed nothing more than India-Pakistan relations,” General Kapoor quoted as saying by Outlook.
